Impact of science

Science greatly impacts our lives. The constant desire to understand things better means that many people worldwide are engaged in research. Estimates of numbers vary, but the percentage of the working population related to science lies between 5 and 10%. In some cases, these scientists have become known for their insights and contribution to society, but most people do their work fairly anonymously for the general public. For me, research and delving into a particular subject starts with reading what is already known in science. The beauty of science is that there are many different ways of interpreting numbers and insights. This leads to different opinions and interpretations of the “facts”. A critical view and looking at the source help a lot in interpreting the relevance.

hidden gems

In our industry, its influence is much weaker. I meet relatively few people in practice who read articles from JMR of IJRM and apply those insights to their research. It is a shame, as there are so many treasures that make our work better. Of course, an important reason is the way these articles are written and their accessibility. Unfortunately, science has a talent for hiding gems behind masses of complexity and formulas. It also remains remarkable that the most famous scientists and professors in our field are hardly known in science itself. Even they can’t escape the influence of populism.

ATTENTION TO SCIENCE

In our April newsletter, we also pay attention to science by sharing an article based on one of the many research collaborations with universities. Our Brand Growth Event offers a stage to a great scientist and professor who is less known in practice. By continuously showcasing these gems and applying new learnings, we hope that more attention will be paid to all that science has to offer.
