ARE PEOPLE WORRYING

4 weeks after full lockdown measures were put in place, the level of concern remains high in the UK. This latest data point comes a few days after the government announced the current lockdown measures would continue for another 3 weeks and at a time when it is still not clear if the UK is through the peak of infection rates yet.

ARE PEOPLE TAKING PREVENTIVE MEASURES

People are continuing to do their bit by taking preventative measures, showing a very high level of compliance with government advice and messaging.

WHAT ARE THE MEASURES MOST PEOPLE ARE TAKING

Preventative behaviours of social distancing and basic personal hygiene are sticking and in the case of this top 5, the number of people taking each measure has even edged up.

HOW DO WE FEEL ABOUT THE MEDIA AND THE GOVERNMENT

Under the surface of behavioural compliance, there has been a significant drop in the level of satisfaction with the information being provided by the government in the last 3 weeks. Recent days have seen big question marks raised on the provision of PPE, the situation in care homes and the level of testing not ramping up. In addition, there has been confused messaging on the ‘exit strategy’ over the weekend.  This sentiment is also reflected in the proportion of people believing the government is taking enough measures remaining at the same level.

RESEARCH METHOD DVJ INSIGHTS

The sample for this study consists of over 500 people per measurement. This number is large enough for reliable results. In addition, a representative sample by gender and age, education level and region were used. Based on this sampling method, we can state that the results represent the opinion of the United Kingdom as it was at the time of measurement.
