ARE PEOPLE WORRYING

Following the lockdown measures being put in place last week, the overall level of concern has edged up. 9 in 10 now say they are concerned.

ARE PEOPLE TAKING PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Underlying the level of concern, the last 10 days have seen a significant change in behaviour. Reflecting the need to ‘do your bit’, almost everyone has taken some measures to prevent infection.

WHAT ARE THE MEASURES MOST PEOPLE ARE TAKING

A week of ramped up ‘stay at home’ and ‘social distancing’ messaging has had a clear impact on behaviour. Significantly more people are working from home as much as possible and avoiding contact with others as much as possible. At the same time, people aren’t forgetting the basics… people are still washing their hands more often.

HOW DO WE FEEL ABOUT THE MEDIA AND THE GOVERNMENT

As the impact from the virus increases, attitudes to the media and to what the government is saying have changed. A lot more people are satisfied with the information they’re getting from the government vs the middle of March. And fewer people think the media is paying ‘too much attention’. However, attitudes to what the government is actually doing have not seen the same changes. Around half evidently think the government could be doing more to help.

RESEARCH METHOD DVJ INSIGHTS

The sample for this study consists of over 500 people per measurement. This number is large enough for reliable results. In addition, a representative sample by gender and age, education level and region were used. Based on this sampling method, we can state that the results represent the opinion of the United Kingdom as it was at the time of measurement.
